Intermodality Puerta Centro
The main characteristics of Puerta Centro – Ciudad del Trasporte evolves around the intermodality. To the advantage of being able to combine the inherent benefits of different modes of transport involved, it is worthwhile adding, as a favourable factor of intermodal transport, the cost.

Basic criterions of Railway Intermodality conception.

a) The generation of logistic activities
Is the consequence of the intermodality. The initiation of business areas around the interchange train-road, create the necessity to generate platforms where loads are consolidated and distributed, as well as, the development of service areas in order to respond to the needs of the important number of human resources stemming from different activities that coexist in the project.
b) Development of European policies of public work of intermodality
Strengthens the integration of different modes of transport, optimising each mode in its market niche with proven competitiveness and the achievement of more sustainable environmental transport system.
c) Competitiveness improvement
Of companies of logistic and transport sector that deploy activities in Puerta Centro and the surroundings of Guadalajara and Corredor del Henares.
d) Implementation of suitable design standards
with a view to providing a highly competitive functioning of the Intermodal Terminal. There would be consideration of the length of the useful lines of 900 m, slopes of 0% for the loading and unloading lines and 3‰ for the rest (Reception and dispatching lines, trunk and siding lines) and a surface area of at least 15 hectares, without including the warehouses with railway access and dedicated terminals.
e) Contribution to a greater environmental sustainability and efficiency of the transport system
via the creation of an area of economic activities where railway traffic of merchandise will be strengthened and the traffic of heavy vehicle will be reduced both in the urban surrounding of Guadalajara and medium and long distance traffic.
In the estimation of the railway traffic it entails a movement ratio of 0,60 TEUs per m2 of buildable surface are dedicated to logistic functions, of which 20% is moved by railway 300 working days per annum with the capacity of nocturnal hours.

At all times it is considered an optimistic scenario of traffic generator within the framework of promoting the railway mode.
